Barbecue.... with a cold side

Hi,

We are a french company developing a solar barbecue that will store heat in an aluminium mass in order to allow cooking by night.

Would it be possible to store the solar energy with you system in order to restore it later with both a hot side for cooking and a cold place for beverage cooling ?

My understanding is that your system allows a 90°C max temperature ?

Would it be possible to use a different mix in order to go 300°C ?

Hi Benjamin @benjamindeblanzy! We have a few different salt mixtures, some of them heat up to 500C. You can find that information here: http://saltxlabs.com/community/detailed-information-about-the-technology/introduction-data-sheet/

I am a bit skeptical about using solar power though. How will you charge the salt with solar power? Do you plan to convert to electricity or condense solar power?

It's great; with a 500°C we could have a nice cooking device:)

We are planning to charge the SaltX with a solar parabolic heat concentrator  following the sun all day long.

Our parabolic concentrator will be 1,8 square meters and we can produce 1200Watts of heat for around 7 hours so it seems possible to charge a saltX battery.

What would be the necessary energy to charge a 5 kilos 500°C battery ?

What would be the temperature needed ?

 

For how long would it produce a 500°C heat ?

Hey @benjamindeblanzy! As you find in the table, SaltX purple salt in the matrix has about 200kWh/m3 energy density. If you take only the salt, it would be about 400kWh/m3. Roughly calculated, one liter is about 0.4kWh, so 5 liters would be about 2kWh. Density is also provided in the table so you can convert into kg.

The higher the charging temperature the better. You will need about 550C for this salt.

Depending on your heat exchanger, it can produce the heat for longer or shorter. I would try to work around with power flux.

We also offer engineering studies to design heat exchangers, reactors, and perform similar tasks. We are really busy at the moment however.
